Weather Update (Feb. 6)

News
Polk County Public schools news release graphic.

Polk County Public Schools is monitoring some potentially severe weather that is expected to impact areas of Florida this evening.

Some areas of our state, including Central Florida, may experience strong winds, heavy rains, and thunderstorms. The most current weather reports show these conditions occurring over the evening hours. These effects are expected to diminish into the morning hours.

There is no change to our schools’ schedules for today or tomorrow. Classes will begin and end at their usual times.

We will continue to monitor weather reports and provide updates if necessary using the automated telephone calling system for parents and guardians, as well as the district’s website and social media accounts.

Auburndale High’s track meet this afternoon has been canceled, because the slight increase in wind will impact the specific events that were to take place. However, at this time all other after-school activities, sporting events and practices for today and tomorrow are expected to proceed.

Schools will use their social media accounts or websites if any changes are made to sports schedules or other extracurricular activities. Thank you.
