Please see the following for information about a voluntary recall related to school buses:

Polk County Public Schools has 278 buses that will undergo repairs as part of a voluntary nationwide recall.

“The buses still meet state inspection standards, and they are safe to operate,” said Rob Davis, associate superintendent of support services. “All of our 639 buses in the fleet are equipped with lap belts. There have been no reported incidents or injuries related to this voluntary recall.”

This recall of certain Thomas Built Buses was issued as a precaution by the manufacturer (Daimler Trucks North America) and encompasses more than 50,000 buses nationwide.

The backs of the bus seats contain a styrene block that may not absorb impact as specified in federal safety standards. The manufacturer will be incurring all costs associated with the replacement of each block.

The manufacturer is working on producing the replacement parts. It may take up to six months to complete once parts become available.
