New York City’s Rockefeller Center is preparing to debut its Flag Project, which will feature unique flag designs submitted from around the world.

Several internationally renowned artists will have their work displayed in the project, but we’re most excited about a local talent: Sandhill Elementary art teacher Christie Becker-Fitzgerald!

Becker-Fitzgerald was just informed that her artwork was selected for the project and is currently being produced as a “one-of-a-kind” 8′ x 5′ flag.

The chosen flags will be flown from the 192 flagpoles surrounding the Rockefeller rink from Aug. 1-16. The effort is meant to celebrate New York and help “usher in a new era of togetherness and human connection amidst a difficult time.”

“I am so honored,” Becker-Fitzgerald said in a post on her Facebook page. “So excited I could jump out of my skin.”
