The Polk County School Board voted Tuesday night to approve contract agreements with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 2227 for the 2019-20 school year.
School Board members in a 6-1 vote accepted the agreements reached with the union, which represents bus drivers and attendants, school nutrition assistants, and custodial and maintenance personnel. School Board member Sarah Fortney was the dissenting vote.
Salaries will remain frozen for the 2019-20 school year, under the terms of these agreements.
The district will incur approximately $10 million in additional costs to stabilize the 2020 self-funded health plan and keep health care costs from rising.
Last month, AFSCME’s three bargaining groups voted to ratify the three contracts. They were presented to the School Board for approval on Tuesday night.
