UPDATE (Sept. 3): Beginning with Tuesday’s school board meetings, all visitors will be subject to a metal detector screening. Purses, backpacks, or other bags are permitted inside but are subject to inspection.
Prohibited items include any firearms, weapons, knives, sharp objects, pepper spray, mace, explosives and flammables.
We are implementing this measure to ensure the safety of all meeting participants and visitors. Thank you for understanding.
The Polk County School Board will have a work session at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday (Sept. 7), followed by a regular board meeting at 5 p.m.
The board will also have a work session at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28.
All sessions will take place at the Jim Miles Professional Development Center in Lakeland, 4270 Wallace Road.
The meetings will be broadcast live on the PCPS YouTube channel, youtube.com/polkcountypublicschools. They can also be viewed on the following channels: Comcast channel 7, Frontier channel 45, Spectrum channel 642.
The meetings will be structured to comply with CDC guidance, including social distancing and limiting the capacity of rooms.
