Polk County Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 12, due to Hurricane Eta.
Polk County is expected to experience sustained winds of 35-40 MPH and gusts of up to 60 MPH on Thursday morning. In those conditions, it will be unsafe to transport students to and from school. The decision to close schools and offices is being made out of an abundance of caution, to ensure the safety of our students, parents and employees.
The school closure is for all PCPS students, including eSchool and Polk Virtual School.
This is a very unpredictable storm. We continue to monitor it closely and work with county emergency management personnel.
We will communicate any additional updates via our website, social media accounts, automated telephone/email system, and the local news media.
Schools and offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 12, and are expected to reopen as normal on Friday, Nov. 13.
All after-school activities are also cancelled on Thursday, Nov. 12, and are expected to resume on Friday, Nov. 13.
Please note: This closure does not apply to charter and private schools. If you attend a charter or private school, please contact your school for information on their storm preparations.
