Polk County Public Schools’ reopening task force heard today from medical experts on safety measures that could help limit the spread of the coronavirus among students and staff.
The task force continues to finalize recommendations for how to physically reopen schools, as well as offer distance learning options for the 2020-21 school year. An overview of this plan will be presented to the School Board during its July 14 work session.
During today’s meeting, task force members spoke to Dr. Adriana Cadilla and Dr. Kenneth Alexander, two pediatric infectious disease specialists at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando. Dr. Joy Jackson, director of the Florida Department of Health in Polk County and a member of the task force, also answered questions.
The experts covered a variety of topics, including the effectiveness of wearing face coverings to limit the spread of illness, how to conduct temperature screenings, and strategies for social distancing on campus.
