Four PCPS high schools topped the lists of Academic Team Champions compiled by the Florida High School Athletic Association.
The statewide Academic Team Champions program “honors teamwork not only in competition, but in the classroom as well,” according to the FHSAA. Teams are ranked by cumulative unweighted GPA within their respective sport and FHSAA classification.
PCPS had four overall champs for the fall 2020 semester. Congratulations to:
- Auburndale High girls golf (3.968 GPA; Class 2A)
- Bartow High boys swimming (3.884 GPA; Class 4A)
- Kathleen High girls volleyball (3.804 GPA; Class 6A)
- Lakeland High girls swimming (3.874 GPA; Class 3A)
“It’s just awesome. As successful as we have been on the fields and courts of play, we’re also excelling in the classroom,” said Dan Talbot, PCPS’ athletics director. “It takes everyone’s hard work in the classroom to be an Academic Team Champion; that’s just as important as winning a championship on the field. It’s a great honor for these student-athletes.”
