Disability Awareness

Polk County Public Schools is celebrating Disability History and Awareness during the first two weeks of October.

Senate Bill 856, called “Disability History and Awareness Instruction,” officially became law in 2008.

The bill requires school districts to designate the first two weeks of October as Disability History and Awareness Weeks. It also promotes instruction for students in all public schools to expand their knowledge, understanding, and awareness of individuals with disabilities, disability history, and the disability rights movement.

Throughout Disability History and Awareness Weeks, Polk County Public Schools will be posting information about its services for students with disabilities on its social media accounts.
