McLaughin Middle School and Fine Arts Academy unveiled a new look during its Winter Gala Thursday evening.
Students performed for parents, school and district leaders, and community members. The evening culminated with the unveiling of the school’s updated mascot — a soaring Phoenix — and a new, formal logo featuring an “M” filled with a mosaic design. Students selected the orange and red color scheme of the new logo and mascot.
“The Phoenix has been our symbol since 2013, but it was time to modernize our school image,” said Acting Principal Debra Wright Hudson.
“This is a school with a very bright future ahead. We wanted something to symbolize our path forward, and the new era that is underway at McLaughlin. Everything we are doing here is student-centered. Everything we are doing is about building our students’ engagement, buy-in, pride and belief in their ability to achieve. That’s why we had students vote on our new school colors. This is their school, and we want them to be proud when they walk on to campus every day.”
Thursday’s event also included an unveiling of the school’s new website, which can be found at mclaughlin.polkschoolsfl.com.
