The board of directors for the Florida High School Athletic Association has voted to postpone the start of the fall sports season until Aug. 24 in response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The board will meet again during the week of Aug. 10 to discuss alternate plans for the 2020-21 school year.

Polk County Public Schools recently announced that practices for fall sports are being postponed. Dan Talbot, PCPS’ senior coordinator of athletics, said physical conditioning for student-athletes can continue with safety protocols in place to protect students and staff members.

PCPS student-athletes should contact their coaches for more information.
