Students Get Early Exposure to College Through AVID Program

Students from Stambaugh Middle attending our district's College Fair at Florida Southern College.
We had a great turnout for our district’s annual College Fair, held on Tuesday at Florida Southern College. We were especially proud to see these young faces from the AVID program at Stambaugh Middle.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college- and career-readiness program designed for students with limited means. Students selected for the program must be academically motivated and committed to maintaining their grades. In return, they receive extra support on their journey to college.
Another perk for our middle schoolers is early exposure to college through campus tours and events such as Tuesday’s fair.
We expanded AVID to six new high schools this year: Bartow, Haines City, Kathleen, Mulberry, Ridge Community and Winter Haven; as well as Crystal Lake and Westwood middle schools.
AVID is also available at Auburndale, Lake Gibson, Lake Region and Tenoroc high schools; as well as Kathleen, Lake Gibson, Mulberry and Stambaugh middle schools.
Stay tuned — we’re working hard to bring AVID to even more schools near you!
