Davenport School of the Arts has been officially certified as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School.

The honor is presented by FranklinCovey Education, a Utah-based consulting firm that specializes in student and staff leadership development. DSA is one of just 650 schools worldwide that have earned the Lighthouse certification. Schools can achieve the certification through an extensive process of implementing leadership practices and skills that benefit the entire school culture.

DSA has been working toward its Lighthouse certification since 2009. FranklinCovey highlighted the school’s many accomplishments since that time, including student involvement in community service projects, creating student leadership teams, having students set academic and personal goals, and supporting initiatives that promote student accountability and family engagement.

“Being named a Lighthouse school means that we are doing great things surrounding leadership, academics and culture,” said DSA Principal Cindy Braaten.

DSA students and staff were recognized at a Polk County School Board meeting earlier this year. Congratulations to all involved for this well-deserved honor!
