PCPS Assistant Principal of the Year: Tammy Ruhl from Floral Avenue Elementary
Posted on 10/08/2021
Tammy RuhlTammy Ruhl is one of the busiest Bees at Floral Avenue Elementary, and there always seems to be a positive buzz about the school.

It’s no surprise that she is Polk County Public Schools’ Assistant Principal of the Year for 2021-22.

“Tammy is a dedicated employee who puts students first, values families and understands the importance of community,” says Victor Duncan, PCPS’ regional superintendent who oversees Floral Avenue. “She plays a key role in all aspects of the school.”

As PCPS’ Assistant Principal of the Year, Ruhl will serve as our district’s nominee for the Florida Department of Education’s annual statewide Assistant Principal of the Year award.

Ruhl has been praised for working closely with her school’s teachers and academic coaches to plan curriculum that meets students’ needs. She also provides extra support to new teachers, and works hard to organize and host parent events to keep families engaged.

Ruhl is often visited by her former students after they move on to middle and high school.

“I’ve been very fortunate to watch my students start here and go on to be successful adults,” she says. “Floral Avenue is a neat place to work. I’ve got wonderful staff, and there’s a hometown feel, the families take care of each other. I’m the one who is lucky to have this job.”
