Polk County Public Schools is proud to announce our Sunshine State Scholars for 2021!
Congratulations to Anderson Garner from Winter Haven High, Kelsey Slone from Lake Gibson High and Kim-Tien Vo from Harrison School for the Arts.
Every year, Florida’s school districts select their top high school juniors in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) for the Sunshine State Scholars program.
Regarding PCPS’ trio of scholars for 2021: “These high-achieving students are leaders in their schools, and their selection from the many applicants highlights their performance in the multitude of STEM courses that PCPS has to offer,” said Jeff Hancock, PCPS’ senior director of K-12 science. “We look forward to their success at the college level and beyond.”
Each scholar and their parents are invited to a special two-day event in Orlando, where they can meet with Florida college representatives and STEM employers. The students also work together to conduct a “think tank” on tough challenges facing our state.
The 2021 Sunshine State Scholars event is scheduled for April 8-9. More than 100 students are expected to attend.
