What's the hottest new thing in Polk County Public Schools? Arguably, it's the welding program at Roosevelt Academy.
We hosted an event at Roosevelt this morning to commemorate the school's welding program, which has been a few years in the making. The Gassett and Garcia family have generously supported this effort by providing welding booths and donating $20,000 for supplies.
Gregory Jackson, a welding instructor from Ridge Technical College, is teaching the trade to Roosevelt students. The students receive dual enrollment credits and have the ability to continue their welding training at Ridge Technical, where they can advance their skills before entering the workforce.
