Lawton Chiles Middle Academy Students Win Polk MathCounts Competition

Lawton Chiles Wins MathCounts

A team of Mathletes from Lawton Chiles Middle Academy won first place in a recent MathCounts competition.

The event, held Feb. 4 at Mulberry High, featured nearly 100 students from public and private schools throughout Polk County. LCMA placed first, followed by teams from All Saints Academy and Jewett Middle Academy.

The LCMA and All Saints squads will now advance to the MathCounts state competition next month in Orlando.

Congratulations to the LCMA math maestros: Johan Bijiyos (the event’s top individual competitor), Adrian Hernandez Vega, Liam Maloney and Siddharth Sivakumar.

In addition, Nathan Boyd from Frostproof Middle-Senior and Van Louis Montilla from Jewett Middle Academy will compete as individuals at the MathCounts state event.

MathCounts is a national math enrichment program that helps students develop strong problem-solving, logical thinking and analytical abilities. The program is designed for middle school students to help prepare them for careers in STEM fields.
