Lawton Chiles Middle Team Wins MathCounts Again

Lawton Childs MathCount Team Wins AgainA team of “Mathletes” from Lawton Chiles Middle Academy won first place in a local MathCounts competition, for the second year in a row.

The event, held earlier this month at All Saints Academy, featured nearly 100 students from public and private schools throughout Polk County. LCMA placed first, followed by teams from McKeel Academy of Technology and All Saints Academy.

The LCMA and McKeel squads will now advance to the MathCounts state competition next month in Orlando.

Congratulations to the winning LCMA students: Johan Bijiyos, the event’s top individual competitor for the second consecutive year; Asher Brickhouse, Liam Maloney and Arya Patel.

In addition, Satvik Ammu and Josiah Hazzard from LCMA will compete as individuals at the MathCounts state event.

MathCounts is a national math enrichment program that helps students develop strong problem-solving, logical thinking and analytical abilities. The program is designed for middle school students to help prepare them for careers in STEM fields.
