Jewett Middle Academy’s Marilyn De Leon was recognized as a Teacher of Promise during the Florida Foreign Language Association’s (FFLA) recent conference in Jacksonville.

The Teacher of Promise award was developed by FFLA to honor outstanding world languages teachers who are new to the profession. Recipients have completed three or fewer years of teaching and show potential to become exceptional educators and leaders.

De Leon, who teaches Spanish at Jewett Middle, was nominated by Pablo L. Martinez, a world languages curriculum specialist for PCPS.

“Mrs. Marilyn De Leon has demonstrated that teaching is about passion and caring for our students. She started in the middle of the pandemic, but even in the most difficult times she strived to grow and provide quality lessons to her students,” Martinez said. “She is an excellent representative of PCPS teachers, and our world languages program. We are more than honored to have her.”
