East Area Adult School and its supporters are feeling pretty proud these days.
The EAAS family took home four awards during the 31st annual Adult and Community Educators (ACE) of Florida conference, held last month in St. Petersburg.
EAAS Assistant Principal Dr. Danielle DeConcilio won the John E. Lawrence School Administrator of the Year award.
Dr. DeConcilio said she was thrilled to receive the honor and put the spotlight on the important work EAAS does, which includes helping students earn their GED diploma and learn English.
“I'm trying to bring attention to what we do, so when people think of good, successful adult school programs, they think of us,” Dr. DeConcilio said. “We're proud to have a platform so we can advocate for adult education.”
Married couple and devoted EAAS volunteers Steve and Nancy Abney won ACE's Volunteer of the Year award.
Two of EAAS' valued community partners were also recognized by ACE: Tim Pospichal of Auburndale Parks Inc. won the Business Supporter of the Year award, and the Northeast Polk Chamber of Commerce won Media Promotion of the Year.
“We just have really good support,” Dr. DeConcilio said. “I was super happy.”
