Davenport Elementary Named a Polk County Heritage Site

Breaking News for Polk County Public Schools

We always knew that Davenport Elementary was a historical treasure, but now it's official.

This morning we gathered at Davenport Elementary to unveil a new marker recognizing the school as a Polk County Heritage Site.

Davenport Elementary was originally built in 1927 and served as a school (including the former home of Davenport School of the Arts) until 2009. It then housed various programs until Polk County Public Schools began renovating and expanding the campus in 2019..

Care was taken to restore features of the original building, including the auditorium, hardwood floors, orchestra pit and entryway. The revamped Davenport Elementary finally opened in August 2020, but due to the pandemic, we never had a chance to properly celebrate its debut.

With that in mind, today's event included a belated ribbon-cutting ceremony for the school. We look forward to serving the Davenport community for many years to come.
