General James A. Van Fleet was a four-star general and Commander of the United States Eighth Army and affiliated Korean army and United Nations forces. Chosen by President Truman to direct the joint U.S. Military Advisory Planning Group in Greece that stopped Communist insurgencies in that country. Statues in his honor are erected in both Greece and Korea.
