E.M. Haynsworth, technology expert credited with helping to turn Florida and Polk County phosphate mining into industry giants. A mining engineer, Haynsworth was instrumental in pioneering processes used in virtually all phosphate mining operations. Mine manager and superintendent, the former Chicora Mine in Bradley was renamed Haynsworth Mine to mark his accomplishments in the industry.
