As Polk Schools Director of Elementary Education, Diana Myrick was considered a key facilitator in the focus on literacy. As principal at Southwest Elementary, the school, under her stewardship, was named as one of the nation's best by Redbook magazine. She's been nominated for the National Distinguished Principal award and was recipient of a Sylvan Learning Center's Principal Award. She also served as Director for the Florida Elementary School Principals organization from 1991 to 1993.
