Rosa Mosso $40000 Scholarship

Mulberry High junior Rosa Mosso got quite a surprise today: a $40,000 BigFuture Scholarship!

The scholarships are awarded by the College Board to just two students nationwide each month. Students are eligible for the monthly drawings if they meet requirements to explore careers and plan for college.

Earlier today, Mosso was summoned to a classroom at Mulberry High, thinking she was going to talk about her plans after graduation. But instead, she was surprised with the scholarship announcement in front of her family and schoolmates.

"I'm just so shocked," she said. "Hard work does pay off."

Mosso said her parents come from a humble background and have strived to create opportunities for her and her siblings.

The BigFuture Scholarship "really means a lot to me ... I would be the first generation (in my family) to actually attend college and get a degree," Mosso said.

Mosso said she would like to attend the University of South Florida, Southeastern University or Michigan State University. She hopes to get a degree in nursing.
