Mission Statement

The Polk Regional Science and Engineering Fair (PRSEF) promotes the understanding and appreciation of science and the vital role it plays in human advancement: to inform, educate, and inspire (Society for Science). To accomplish this mission, the PRSEF provides opportunities for aspiring scientists and engineers in grades six through twelve to showcase their independent research. In doing so, the main objectives of the PRSEF are to:

  • Recognize scientific talent in young people;
  • Introduce students to organized research;
  • Provide teachers a forum for the exchange of ideas;
  • Focus attention on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics); and
  • Stimulate student, teacher, and public interest.

The PRSEF is open to all Polk County students including public, charter, private and home schools. The PRSEF abides by the Florida State Science and Engineering Fair (SSEF) rules and guidelines, as well as those of the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).

History

The Polk Regional and Engineering Fair (PRSEF) began by a group of parents in 1985 to provide students the opportunity to participate in a competition that would showcase their independent research projects. To this day, Polk County schools continue to expand their efforts in operating the fair to support all students in their scientific and engineering endeavors.
