Cullen Wyatt Wins Merit

Lakeland High’s Cullen Wyatt has won a National Merit Scholarship.

Wyatt was one of 2,500 U.S. high school seniors announced as National Merit winners today; each scholarship is worth $2,500. The winners were “judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies,” according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

This year’s National Merit program features more than 15,000 student finalists. The winners are selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors, who review students’ academics, test performance and contributions to their schools and communities.

Additional National Merit winners will be announced in June and July. Altogether, more than 7,140 seniors will receive the scholarships this year.
