“Love the Bus” Month: Meet Clayton Keene

February is Love the Bus Month, a monthlong celebration created by the American School Bus Council to honor the contributions of drivers, attendants and all transportation personnel to public education.

This is a chance to get to know some of PCPS’ outstanding transportation employees; we’ve been introducing them to you all month long!

Thank you, PCPS transportation employees, for all you do to put Students First!

Profile: Clayton Keene, PCPS transportation technician

As a transportation technician, it’s Clayton Keene’s job to help keep PCPS buses operating safely.

Clayton has always been mechanically inclined and grew up fixing farm equipment and trailers. He previously worked in fleet maintenance for the City of Auburndale but came to work for PCPS because it matched his interests, and gave him the chance to contribute to children’s education. He enjoys seeing buses picking up students to take them to school, and he takes pride in repairing buses so that they can return to the road safely.

As a technician, he’s also played an important role in PCPS’ response to the coronavirus pandemic by installing hand sanitizer dispensers on buses and making sure they are consistently replenished. He also assists with sanitizing buses and changing air filters to minimize exposure to the virus.

Clayton said he would recommend his job to anyone who has “a mechanical interest and a heart for schools.” Thank you, Clayton!
