John Vincent Atanasoff is credited with the invention of the electronic digital computer. During his long career in science, he was Chief of the Acoustic Subdivision of the Naval Ordinance Laboratory in Washington, D.C. and was chief scientist of the Army Field Forces stationed in Virginia.
