This recognition is belated,

But we are still elated,

To honor our best poets,

Who deserve to be celebrated!

Polk County Public Schools congratulates the winners of the 46th annual Poetry Awards. These outstanding students and their teachers were recognized during a ceremony on May 11 at Florida Southern College’s Branscomb Auditorium.

Nhayah Bruno from IB Bartow won the Robert J. Fisher Award for the best poem at the high school level. Danny Cantrell from Rochelle School of the Arts received the Mary Mayberry Award for the best middle school poem.

Congratulations to all of the honorees from this year’s Poetry Awards. The following students placed first in their grade level:

  • Adeleine Flores, Lawton Chiles Middle Academy (sixth grade)
  • Adrian Hernandez Vega, Lawton Chiles Middle Academy (seventh grade)
  • Sophia Sernaque, Dundee Ridge Middle (eighth grade)
  • Thomas Chancey, George Jenkins High (ninth grade)
  • Liliana Ortiz, IB Bartow (10th grade)
  • Addison Pinkerton, IB Haines City (11th grade)
  • Ace Hudson, Lakeland High (12th grade)
