Polk County Public Schools will soon be conducting a review of its reproductive health curriculum.
Every year, the Polk County School Board is responsible for approving all instructional materials used to teach reproductive health or any sexually-transmitted disease (including HIV/AIDS, its symptoms, development and treatment). The process takes place during a public meeting.
In preparation for the upcoming school year (2022-23), PCPS is organizing a committee to review the current curriculum and suggest possible changes or improvements. These recommendations will be sent to the superintendent for consideration.
The Reproductive Health Review Committee will be comprised of teachers, PCPS parents/guardians, and community medical professionals.

Committee membership is limited and requires a significant commitment of personal time to participate.
Committee members will be asked to attend up to five meetings. The meetings will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Mark Wilcox Center, 611 Post Ave. S.W. in Winter Haven.
No more than two meetings will be scheduled in any given week. The review process will begin in late May and last approximately two to three weeks.
The committee members will be assigned to three workgroups:
• Elementary level (grades 4-5)
• Middle school level (grades 6-8)
• High school level
Each workgroup will include two teachers, two parents and two community medical professionals.
**NOTE: Participants may be asked to serve on more than one workgroup.**
