New Hire Insurance Benefits Information

New hires have 60 days from their hire date to enroll in benefits. Benefits are effective the first of the month following 60 days of employment. Failure to enroll by that date means, you will be automatically enrolled in the Board-funded insurance benefits and will forfeit your right to enroll for optional benefits until open enrollment.

Polk County Public Schools is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefits package including board-funded employee health insurance and $20,000 Group Term Life including $10,000 AD&D coverage for the dedicated, hard-working employees that make daily contributions in the lives of students and fellow employees. The Risk Management and Employee Benefits Department continue to focus on Ongoing Well Living (OWL) for all employees and dependents! Our goal is to create WISE employee benefit consumers because Wise Individuals Stay Engaged!
The Risk Management and Employee Benefits Department are pleased to announce the PCPS Employee Health Clinics are available for all PCPS Employees to use from their date of hire regardless of health plan coverage and available to dependents (over the age of 2) once covered on the PCPS Health Plan.

Transparency in Coverage

On 11/12/2020, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Department of Labor, and the Department of the Treasury published the Transparency in Coverage Final Rule (85 FR 72158-01). The first phase of the Transparency in Coverage Rule requires group health plans and health insurance issuers to provide pricing information for covered items and services as follows:

  • In-network provider negotiated rates
  • Historical out-of-network provider allowed amounts

Benefit Effective Dates

Benefits are effective the first of the month following 60 days of employment. Please note employee-only health and the basic term life coverage are automatically effective. Enrollment for any additional coverage is a voluntary benefit and you must log in/create an account on Benefit Focus to approve/decline enrollment before 60 days of employment.
