Agriculture

The Agritechnologies Academy offers courses in traditional agriculture operations that include Animal Science and Horticulture. Students learn from hands-on activities, work in the classroom, and also through the largest student-run organization in the world, the FFA. Additional industry certification in Agritechnology and Professional Horticulture will be offered.

Engineering

This program offers 3 different tracks-Robotics, Engineering and Architecture. It provides a critical link between the design engineering process and manufacturing by fostering an understanding of design principles, material properties, and manufacturing processes. Students gain hands-on training with a 3D printer and CADD technology.

Culinary

This program will get you started on your road to success in the culinary industry.  Here you’ll learn what it takes to create delicious dishes and learn valuable skills needed in and out of the classroom through a hands-on environment.  Whether you’re an aspiring chef or planning on owning your own restaurant we will provide the knowledge to get you there.  We have competitions, certifications and scholarship opportunities that keep you challenged all year long.

Education

Early Childhood Education Academy provides experience and specialized instruction for students interested in working with children. Students help operate a program that provides care for children from 12 weeks to 5 years of age, giving the high school students hands-on experience with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. The program also gives students the opportunity to interact with children on a daily basis, allowing them to discover if they are suited for a career in working with children.

Graphic Design

Prepare for a career in areas of promotional graphics, digital design or TV broadcast while earning industry certifications inAdobe products such as Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign, and Illustrator. Students will produce the morning news, compete in film festivals and make original films. This program was awarded the Medallion Award from the Sunshine State School Public Relation Association for the student competition that produced our new school district logo and tagline, “Students First.”

Medical

As part of this nationally accredited model academy, students will have hands-on training that will lead them into the medical field. Students compete across the state and country in the HOSA Club. Students can receive dual enrollment in EMR medical training, medical terminology, and allied health.

This academy is based on Agriculture with emphasis in animal, plant, food, and environmental sciences.  Students will gain knowledge and skills needed in the Agriculture Industry.  Students will become agriculture advocates, informed consumers, and informed voters.  Students are expected to be part of the intra-curricular organization, National FFA Organization.  This is a leadership organization for Agriculture Education students.

Agriculture

The iGrow Agriculture Academy, helps students develop competencies in a variety of areas of agriculture. Students are introduced to concepts demonstrating the diversity and importance of agriculture in Florida, in areas such as horticulture, animal husbandry, forestry, agritechnology, and agribusiness. IGrow Academy also enjoys a partnership with Summerlin Academy in the Equestrian Program, where students learn equations through the Dressage discipline of training and riding. Students will gain an understanding of the environmental principles that govern our natural resources and be exposed to a variety of career opportunities in agriculture business and technology. Students learn from hands-on activities, work in the classroom, and also through the largest student-run organization in the world, the FFA.

Construction (ACE)

The Bartow Academy of Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE) focuses its educational efforts on the labor force of construction-related industries in and around Polk County. Currently, the academy has three tracks to prepare students for entry-level employment or advanced training in the construction and manufacturing trades. Students are encouraged, but not required, to take courses in multiple tracks when their schedules allow for a broader understanding of the interconnectivity between the three tracks Engineering, Construction, and Architecture.

Criminal Justice

This a multi-year program where upon graduation, students will have the necessary skills and certifications for employment or continued education in the criminal justice industry. Students will explore academic and career information in law enforcement, courts and corrections. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to take part in mock trials and police explorer programs. The academy also includes a dual enrollment class, allowing students to earn college credit while still enrolled in high school.

Culinary

This a nationally accredited model academy, which provides the opportunity to learn culinary fundamentals in taste, presentation, and cooking techniques. It will allow for experience in the kitchen as well as all aspects of cost control, safety and sanitation, nutrition, and kitchen management. Working at a school-based catering/restaurant setting provides many learning opportunities. Students are involved in catering experiences in school and around the county, providing them with real-world experiences in the culinary industry.

Education

Bartow’s Future Educators Academy is a nationally accredited model academy and offers the Principles of Teaching Program. This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Education & Training career cluster. The content includes, but is not limited to, competencies and skills needed to become a professional in the field of education.

Graphic Design

In this program, students have the opportunity to choose between two tracks: Digital Design and Digital Video Production. Students may earn weighted credit for honors courses and industry certifications in Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Premiere Pro, InDesign, and more!

Medical, Fire

This a nationally accredited model academy, where learners embark on a medical or firefighting program track. Medical Program Track offers courses in Medical Skills, Health Science Anatomy, Health Science Foundations, Emergency Medical Responder, Electrocardiograph Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant or Principles of Public Safety. In the Fire Program Track, students will learn about the Fire service and skills within the career industry. During the Fire Academy program, students must complete EMR, Live fire burns, Wildland fire S130/S190, all exams, skills, and the State Firefighter task book with a passing score.

Middle School

Computing App Development

Academy of Business Computing, pre-academy focuses on App Development, Business Communications, E-book Publishing, and Social Media Management. Students will also have the opportunity to earn a Microsoft Office Specialist certification. This pre-academy feeds into Lake Region High School’s Imagination Academy or Winter Haven High School’s Cyber Security Academy.

Criminal Justice

In this program, students learn about careers in Law, Public Safety and Security. Students will have the opportunity to learn about Law Enforcement, Legal Services, Military Careers, Emergency and Fire Management. This pre-academy will feed into Lake Region High School’s Academy of Law, Justice, and Governance. It also prepares students to enter any high school’s ROTC programs.

Culinary

In the Pathways Café, students will have the opportunity to explore different culinary careers. Students will learn how to prepare meals, the proper presentation of meals, kitchen safety, and menu development. This pre-academy will prepare students for Winter Haven High School or Lake Region High School’s respective Culinary Academies. It will also prepare students for Winter Haven High School’s Cafe Bleu’ Academy.

Medical

Medical students will learn about a wide variety of skills including physical fitness, stress management, healthy eating, and health-related occupations. This pre-academy introduces students to the concepts needed for Winter Haven or Lake Region’s respective Medical Academies. It also prepares students for any of the team sports available at the high school level.

The Agrowtechnology Academy, nationally accredited certified academy, offers courses in traditional agriculture operations that include Animal Science and Horticulture. Business

The Academy of Leadership and Business at Fort Meade Middle/Senior High School provides students with the opportunity to develop a solid foundation of leadership through an introductory course. Students then hone their leadership skills in action by participating in their chosen electives and becoming servant leaders within the school. Students are able to explore the areas of Fine Arts, Health Science, Hospitality, Digital Design, Agriculture and Construction. In addition, these students become mentors to elementary age students through the Trendsetters program.

Construction

The Construction Academy at Fort Meade, is a new offering that has been driven by industry need to provide instruction to students interested in going into the construction field. Areas of instruction will include Safety, Framing, Electrical, Plumbing, Masonry, Planning, Building Codes and Roofing. Opportunities for industry professionals to serve as guest presenters in the classroom as well as future job shadowing is being planned. Career Student Organizations in TSA or Skills USA may be offered.

Hospitality

Through the academy, students gain knowledge in all aspects of culinary hospitality including health/sanitation basics through final presentation. Students can earn the SafeServe certification along with other areas of interest and have the opportunity to intern at some of the top local attractions including Streamsong.  The Marketing Academy provides opportunities for our students who have expressed an interest in developing business and technology skills through computer application classes.  This program will allow students to gain knowledge and the ability to use business persuasion in branding a product.

Medical

This nationally accredited certified academy provides students extensive hands-on learning to enter the pharmacy career field. The DNA of our coursework intertwines the course knowledge of the health care delivery system with the function of developing quality entrepreneurship skills in sequence with understanding wellness, pharmaceutical terminology, and technological innovations.

Students in the academy have the option to pursue the Engineering Track or the Architecture Track.

Graphic Design

The Academy of Design & Technology, is a nationally accredited model academy, offering a four-year information technology career and professional academy offering industry certification and specific career pathways.  Articulation, dual enrollment, and business/education partnerships will be emphasized.  Students will work in small supportive, motivational communities with the opportunity to earn up to one year of college credit.  This will prepare them for careers in the high-growth, high-salary fields of a Digital Assistant Designer and/or Film Production Assistant.

Legal Studies

The Academy of Legal Studies, nationally accredited model academy, will provide students with career and college opportunities in the field of law. College-bound students will find numerous higher education opportunities in law, including public administration, political studies, and law school. Through a combination of articulation agreements and dual enrollment, students will be able to earn college credit. Academy students are called upon to perform in-class debates regarding current legal issues. The practice of legal research and writing is also emphasized. Students gain access to local professionals in the legal field, including court reporters, judges, attorneys, politicians and legal assistants.

Medical

The George Jenkins Medical Academy is a nationally accredited model academy, designed to prepare students for an entry-level medical job or for continued education in a medical career.  It is a minimum three-year course of study with multiple tracts. The student may choose one or more of the following courses: EKG Technician, Allied Health, or Emergency Medical Responder, all of which all include Industry Certification (EKG Technician, Phlebotomy and EMR respectively). There are articulation agreements with Polk State College which allow the student to earn up to 6 credits.

Veterinary Science

This academy is a four-year program of study designed to prepare high school students for entry into post-secondary education majoring in Veterinary Sciences, as well as direct entry into a related Veterinary career after high school as a certified veterinary assistant. Along the way, students receive hands-on experience with the SPCA.

Haines City High

Agriculture

This nationally accredited certified academy offers a unique opportunity to work with animals, promote environmental stewardship, and gain career experience. EATA offers two career technical education tracks; Animal Science and Aquaculture. Animal Science allows students to actively care for and interact with a plethora of animals: emus, horses, rabbits, chickens, cattle, pigs and alpacas. These interactions will encourage students to learn the technical side of agriculture and the skills that come with it. The second track, Aquaculture, creates an experience that combines fish husbandry with aquatic plant production. Students will combine technology and hard work to create a product that can be sold to the public/industry. Florida is the industry leader in ornamental fish production. This track helps students learn the skills necessary to enter and advance this industry. EATA will always strive to introduce, educate and prepare students for a career in agriculture and related industries.

Through a hands-on approach, students will be introduced to the scientific principles in dealing with living plants and animals. Up and coming technological advances in Agriculture are covered using state-of-the-art equipment. We will use real-life applications of the science when working in the realm of Aquaculture, Animal Sciences, Hydroponics, Soil Sciences, and Biotechnology, just to name a few. Students will be taught how to market what they are producing and working on or with. They will be taught multiple leadership skills to assist in developing a new Agriculture generation.

Culinary

Our Culinary Pre Academy is designed to prepare students to work both front and back of the restaurant operations. This includes prepping, cooking, delivering and cleaning the tables along with managing budgets, sales and food in accordance with local, state and federal regulations. Our students’ design projects, dances, and dinners to take classroom knowledge into real-world action.

Medical

The Stambaugh Medical Pre Academy prepares students to enter Medical Academies across Polk County with a basic understanding of the medical profession and requirements to be successful.  Our Pre Academy uses hands-on experiences to bring the learning to life and students can leave our pre-academy with high school credit and be ready to start directly in the chosen medical path of Nursing, Pharmacy or Radiotechnology.  Students can take industry certifications to make them more competitive in the field and ready to learn.

Students will gain a basic understanding of agriculture while focusing on plants, animals, and natural resources. Lakeland Electric is a proud partner with the Polk County Public Schools in creating the Pre-Power Academy at Kathleen Middle School. Lakeland Electric offers opportunities in a variety of technical positions in Production (generating plants), Delivery (wires, poles. Substations), Customer Service (meter reading, call center), and more. The goal of developing the Pre-Power Academy introduces students to careers in the Energy field. In addition, the Pre-Power Academy will provide students with an excellent foundation to compete for a variety of other trade and industry academies in high school.

Kathleen Middle School’s Video Production Team is responsible for producing a daily news program. Students are responsible for developing show ideas, writing scripts, creating graphics, operating cameras and editing shows, stories and segments.

Automotive

This program gives students both hands-on and technical training in the are of Automotive maintenance and repair. Through their experiences, they can prepare for a career in automotive maintenance and the goal is to have them intern their senior year and sit for the industry examination.

Aviation

CFAA is a nationally accredited model academy. Aerospace Technology—This program track is designed to introduce students to the aerospace environment with a focus on flight, navigation, aircraft systems, and the design of aircraft and spacecraft.
Avionics—This program track is designed to introduce students to avionics systems to include troubleshooting, repairing, and installing airborne radio communications, navigation, and radar equipment systems.
Airframe & Powerplant—This program track is designed to introduce students to maintenance and repair to aircraft structures, flight control surfaces, and aircraft instruments.
Engineering—This program track is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of engineering with an emphasis on applied aerospace engineering.

Logistics

Distrotek Academy, a nationally accredited certified academy, is a joint partnership with Room’s To Go. The Distrotek Academy provides students with skills for the workplace in the area of distribution, supply chain management, and marketing. In the process of their studies, each student will be challenged to become an effective and professional employee. Students will understand that strong leadership is accomplished through ethical policies, professional work environments, and effective teamwork.

Medical

Students will learn the skills to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries, aiding in creating a plan for rehabilitation and designing fitness programs. They will be provided the opportunity to help work community events and complete clinical experiences within the industry.

Power (Electricians)

Students will learn relevant skills that will prepare you for a successful career, as an Electrician, Line Worker, System Control Operator, Meter Technician, Power Plant Operator, or Engineer. Students will gain a solid understanding of industrial electricity and entry-level positions throughout the utility industry. Students will experience extensive job shadowing with the City of Lakeland, Lakeland Electric, and other local energy companies.

The Business Pre-Academy, the program provides a wonderful opportunity to increase student achievement and to prepare a solid foundation for them to continue their success when they move to a high school level business and technology academy. It also provides them with the tools needed to ensure their success while continuing their future academic endeavors and career choices. Students learn important keyboarding skills as well as MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, MS Access, and Adobe Photoshop. In addition, students learn Basic Computer Concepts and Internet skills.

Business

The mission of the Polk Academy of Business & Technology, as a nationally accredited certified academy in cooperation with parents and the community, is to provide all students training in specialized technology courses while preparing them for post-secondary studies and to enter the workforce of tomorrow. The focus of the Academy is on building a solid foundation of academic skills while instilling responsibility, interpersonal skills, and work ethics. The teachers incorporate teamwork, leadership, and communication skills within English, Economics, and technology classes.

Business

Academy of Finance gives high school students an opportunity to learn about and prepare for college careers in business and finance. Emphasis is placed on a college preparatory curriculum that is directly linked to the business world. Our mission is to ensure that our students learn business skills to prepare for the future, gain knowledge of money management by making better financial decisions, and practice real-life workplace applications. AOF is recognized as a National Certified Academy by Polk County Public Schools and has gained national recognition by the National Academy Foundation as a Model Academy in 2014 and 2015.

Culinary

Entering the culinary academy will provide the opportunity to learn culinary fundamentals in taste, presentation and cooking technique. It will allow for experience in the kitchen as well as all aspects of cost control, safety, and sanitization, nutrition, and kitchen management. Students have the opportunity to earn the ProStart Certification, as well as, certification in SafeStaff and ServSafe.

Education

This course prepares students to understand the nature of human development from conception through adolescence and the connection of the students’ development and plans for working with children. Emphasis is placed on theories of physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development, the effect of heredity and the environment, the role of caregivers and the family, health and safety concerns, and contemporary issues.

Industrial Biotechnology

The Industrial Biotechnology Academy is a four-year program at Lake Gibson High School. Students should apply for the academy while in 8th grade in order to begin pre-requisite courses. The academy will prepare students for entry-level industry positions as an assistant bio technician or for university lab experiences. Lessons include skills and materials of biotechnology, study and isolation of DNA and proteins, plant cloning and breeding, as well as for biotechnology in agriculture and medicine.
This is an honors level academy in which students learn basic research skills leading to careers in the fields of medicine, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, industry, agriculture, environmental and forensic sciences.

In this nationally accredited certified academy, the students will be prepared for an exciting future as a healthcare professional. Through classwork and hands-on experience, students gain knowledge in anatomy, medical terminology, disease processes and much more. Students can earn industry certifications as they begin to focus their career choices through the different health career pathways that we offer, including EKG Technician, Nursing Assisting, Intro to Medical Assisting,  Phlebotomy, and Allied Health.

Agriscience

We offer a wide range of Agriculture based courses in animal science, horticulture, and basic mechanical work. We offer certifications in Agriculture Foundations, Animal Science, Horticulture and Agritechnologies. With FFA; our co-curricular student organization; we strive to increase students’ knowledge and hands-on experiences in agriculture education. Construction

We offer students an introduction to the construction industry. Students gain the necessary knowledge with classroom instruction using textbooks, video instruction, guest speakers from the construction industry, and hands-on applications. With the knowledge and skills students gain in this class, they will be able to safely operate hand tools, portable power tools, and stationary power equipment. Students are also given valuable instruction on interview skills, formulating material lists, finance, and many other areas. With all of the combined studies that students gain it will better prepare them for success in their future career endeavors.

This academy prepares students to understand the nature of child development from conception to school age, with an emphasis on positive development and nurturing of the family at each stage of a child’s growth. Parenting Skills prepares students for the multiple roles essential to becoming a model parent and assist children to become effective and productive citizens. Students with the Department of Children and Families Child Care Training 40 hour courses and 5 hours Early Literacy online class that can lead students to job placement in the childcare field.

Graphic Design

iMAGINATION, Inc. combines Marketing, Technology, and Graphic Design curriculum in an in-school enterprise environment to provide students real-world experiences to prepare them for careers in public relations, advertising, graphic design, event planning, and sales. The iMAG Academy students at Lake Region High School run a graphic design and marketing business.

The Lake Region Academy of Law, Justice & Governance provides a learning community which, in partnership with local businesses and government agencies, fosters in students the development of critical thinking and executive planning skills that will equip them for college or career opportunities in the fields of law, public administration and governance, law enforcement and justice administration.

The AER Pre-Academy provides hands-on learning experiences focusing on the foundational knowledge of technological design, development, and operations using a variety of tools, materials, processes and systems. Graphic Design

The Media Design Pre-Academy, provides hands-on learning experiences using modern day software programs and equipment focusing on modern communications and design. Students are challenged to manipulate text, data, and images generating products that incorporate multimedia approach communication to include graphic design, animations, video and text editing, and digital special effects.

Medical

The Medical Pre-Academy provides hands-on learning experiences focusing on the foundational knowledge related to the medical profession. Students are challenged to learn and apply their understanding of modern-day medical terminology, the history of medicine, basic first aid and safety, and the anatomy and physiology of the body system.

Video Game Design

The Video Game Design Pre-Academy provides hands-on learning experiences focusing on computer technologies related to the foundational knowledge of design, development, and securities of software development related to video gaming. Students are challenged to create, design, test, and problem-solve while gaining experiences working with various modern-day computer technologies and software.

Video Tech

The A & E Pre-Academy provides a hands-on learning experiences focusing on the foundational knowledge of audio and visual productions utilizing a variety of formats to generate creative expression. Students are challenged to apply their talents and understanding related to the design, management, performance and presentation of various audio/visual products and productions including newscasts, public service announcements, 2D/3D artistic products, as well as a variety of musical ensemble and drama performances.

The Style! LHS Fashion Academy is a unique opportunity for students interested in all aspects of Fashion Design. Students acquire knowledge in design, computer-based patternmaking and entrepreneurship. Students may qualify for the Florida Gold Seal Scholarship while enrolled in this academy.

Multimedia Design, Production

The LHS Multimedia Communications Academy exposes students to industry standard technology in business, web design, print media design and video production.  Students apply skills they’ve learned to real-world projects including production of a weekly video news show, the Highlander Yearbook and other publications.  Students may focus on building their skills in computers and Microsoft Office programs, delve into coding in web design, or specialize in one or more of our journalism focused areas in video and print production.

Veterinary Science

Lakeland Academy of Veterinary Science students learns and interact with a wide variety of animals and situations. Student’s work in real life practicums in and out of the classroom doing various activities from learning about small and large animals and basic husbandry skills. Students are involved in local fairs (Youth Fair, State Fair, and Strawberry Festival) and compete in FFA career development events to sharpen their skills. Students get the experience of working through internships (SPCA, with local veterinarians, and local ranches). Students run and work our school-based enterprise, Doggie Day Care, Thursday of each week throughout the school year. The VSA is equipped with industry-standard equipment to house large and small animals. Our facilities include in-room library, computer lab, large fish aquarium, & greenhouse in partnership with the City of Lakeland.

Construction

We offer students an introduction to the construction industry. Students gain the necessary knowledge with classroom instruction using textbooks, video instruction, guest speakers from the construction industry, and hands-on applications. With the knowledge and skills students gain in this class, they will be able to safely operate hand tools, portable power tools, and stationary power equipment. Students are also given valuable instruction on interview skills, formulating material lists, finance, and many other areas. With all of the combined studies that students gain it will better prepare them for success in their future career endeavors.

This program will get you started on your road to success in the culinary industry.  Here you’ll learn what it takes to create delicious dishes and learn valuable skills needed in and out of the classroom through a hands-on environment.  Whether you’re an aspiring chef or planning on owning your own restaurant we will provide the knowledge to get you there.  We have competitions, certifications and scholarship opportunities that keep you challenged all year long.

Education

Academy of Education provides experience and specialized instruction for students interested in working with children. Students help operate a program that provides care for children from 3 to 5 years of age, giving the high school students hands-on experience with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. The program also gives students the opportunity to interact with children on a daily basis, allowing them to discover if they are suited for a career in working with children.

Engineering

This nationally accredited certified academy seeks to expose students to a wide variety of technical areas within the engineering technology career field. The program features AMATROL Integrated Technology concepts. Students are prepared for post-secondary work and the engineering job market.

Medical

In this nationally accredited certified academy, the students will be prepared for an exciting future as a healthcare professional. Through classwork and hands-on experience, students gain knowledge in anatomy, medical terminology, disease processes and much more. Students can earn industry certifications as they begin to focus their career choices through the different health career pathways that we offer, including EKG Technician, Nursing Assisting, Intro to Medical Assisting,  Phlebotomy, and Allied Health.

The Seminole Pre-Agriculture Academy will prepare students with a basic understanding of agriculture while focusing on plants, animals, and natural resources. Students will also learn about the safety procedures related to agricultural production. Aquaculture studies allow students to gain experience in farming plants and animals in marine environments. Instruction and learning take place in both a traditional classroom setting and an outdoor agricultural lab, providing the opportunity for practical, experiential learning while interacting with equipment, materials, and technology appropriate to the course content. The Seminole Pre-Business Technology Academy prepares students laying a foundation of the skills necessary to compete in an ever-changing, technology-based society. Students will learn practical keyboarding skills and work toward becoming experts in Microsoft Suite, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Access applications. Students will also refine technical skills, utilizing internet platforms for practical business applications.

Culinary

The Seminole Pre-Culinary Academy will prepare students for careers in the area of culinary arts and hospitality.  In the sixth grade, students are provided a basic understanding of Family and Consumer Sciences as they engage in activities related to career research/planning, family and children, and life management skills. Level 2 students will take a look at the hospitality industry by exploring food and beverage, lodging, travel, tourism, and recreation.  These students will also begin to focus on skills directly related to culinary arts including basic kitchen equipment, following recipes, and food safety/preparation.

Design and create movies, daily news segments, documentaries, music videos, posters, flyers, websites, the school’s yearbook and newspaper, bogs, digital portfolios and more. Learn how to market products in today’s digital economy and obtain industry certifications in Adobe Animate, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, InDesign, Illustrator and PremierPro. Student and business-driven projects are used to build digital portfolios for college and job opportunities.

Logistics

Saddle Creek Logistics Academy, is a dynamic, multi-year program focusing on the academic discipline of logistics in both theory and practice.  The logistics program is a collaboration between the Polk County School District and Saddle Creek Logistics Services (Lakeland, FL), the 13th largest privately held, third-party logistics provider in the nation. Students enrolling in the Saddle Creek Logistics Academy have an opportunity to receive certifications in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from various councils and affiliates of supply chain professionals and in business applications with Microsoft Office.

Power (Electricians)

Lakeland Electric Power Academy, students will learn relevant skills that will prepare you for a successful career, as an Electrician, Line Worker, System Control Operator, Meter Technician, Power Plant Operator, or Engineer. Students will gain a solid understanding of industrial electricity and entry-level positions throughout the utility industry. Students will experience extensive job shadowing with the city of Lakeland, Lakeland Electric, and other local energy companies.

Lights—Camera—Action! Video production is a fun and fast-paced industry that is growing and expanding every day! This class is designed to provide students with artistic, creative ad historical background in the fields of video, broadcasting and film production. Students will be provided instruction and training in pre-production, production and post-production phases of project development using professional equipment and software.

Culinary

These students will learn about life skills, how to communicate with others, make a career plan, children and parenting, management skills, clothing choices, and nutrition.  For Careers Discovery we will be learning specifically about 5 different careers, Food Stylist, Event planner, Interior designer, Chef and a Restaurateur, Childcare Provider and Fashion Designer.  Hospitality and Tourism and Fundaments of Culinary Careers. This course is for 7th-grade students. For Hospitality, we study the 5 sections of this industry Food and Beverage, Lodging, Travel, Tourism and Recreation.

Agriculture

This course is designed to develop competencies in the areas of agricultural history and the global impact of agriculture; career opportunities; scientific and research concepts; biological and physical science principles; environmental principles; agriscience safety; principles of leadership; and agribusiness, employability, and human relations skills in agriscience. Laboratory-based activities such as the safe use and application of appropriate technology, scientific testing and observation equipment. Students will develop an understanding of measurement error, and develop the skills to aggregate, interpret, and present the data and resulting conclusions. Students learn from hands-on activities, work in the classroom, and also through the largest student-run organization in the world, the FFA.

Culinary

Students learn how to work in a commercial kitchen with real-world experiences. Students will also learn and perform front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house duties, management skills. Students will prepare quality food products and present them creatively; demonstrate safe, sanitary work procedures; understand food science principles related to cooking and baking, and utilize nutrition concepts when planning meals/menus. Students research career opportunities in professional cooking/baking; follow guidelines on food selection, purchasing, and storage; and use communication skills. Students will prepare various meals and food products including those for individuals with various nutritional needs and/or dietary restrictions. Additionally, students have an opportunity to earn ServSafe Management and/or ProStart certifications. Students can also save thousands of dollars through articulation with Johnson and Wales University.

Cybersecurity

This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and cybersecurity-related careers in the Information Technology career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of cybersecurity.

Fashion

Studio 21, is an academy of four courses in fashion design services. Students learn basic skills for working in design services, leadership and organizational skills, basic principles of design, textile characteristics and care, employability skills, relationship of human factors to design services, safe use of tools and equipment, selection of appropriate materials, terminology of the apparel industry, garment construction skills, researching history and culture’s effect on design, sketching and freehand drawing, use of technology in the fashion industry, clothing needs for special populations, and creation of an original pattern. The final course focuses on five specialty areas of Fashion Design Services: Window Display, Fashion Design Assistant, Tailor’s Assistant, Personal Shopper, and Stylist.

Hospitality

This academy provides students with the opportunity to develop practical skills across a range of working roles, as well as providing global and local perspectives on travel and tourism, people, environments and economies. Learners gain an overview of the industry, including popular destinations, customer care, working procedures, travel and tourism products and services, and marketing and promotion.

Medical

Winter Haven High School’s Medical Academy is a multi-year program. Students study Anatomy and Physiology and continue their education learning about professional behavior and communication, HIPAA, legal and ethical issues, bloodborne pathogens, health insurance and more. They are able to perfect their basic medical skills like blood pressure, CPR, first aid, basic assessment skills, phlebotomy and how to perform an Electrocardiogram throughout the program. Upon graduation, students will have the necessary skills and national certifications to obtain entry-level employment as a health care professional.

Robotics

The Technobotics Academy has courses that provide students with a foundation in content and skills associated with robotics and automation, including artificial intelligence, electronics, physics, and principles of engineering, content and skills essential to the design and operation of robotics, including artificial intelligence, sensors, electronic devices, engineering technologies, motion physics, electrical motors, programming, simulation and modeling, and critical thinking skills, manufacturing, topographical considerations. The Capstone course providing students with extended content and skills essential to the design and operation of autonomous robotic systems in the context of a capstone project. Students will learn to use 3D solid modeling design software to design solutions to problems. TSA (Technology Student Association) enhances personal development, leadership, and career opportunities in STEM, whereby members apply and integrate these concepts through intra-curricular activities, competitions, and related programs.
